Now House® is the retrofit of a one-and-one-half storey, 139 m2 (1,496-sq.-ft.), 60-year-old, postwar detached house in an established Toronto neighbourhood. The retrofit included the installation of a solar thermal heating system and ancillary systems to provide domestic hot water heating and space heating. This Insight presents an overview of the heating systems, the energy consumption before and after the retrofit, and the lessons learned by the Now House® team.

The Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership is pleased to partner with the EQuilibrium™ Communities Initiative to present a 2-day conference exploring the current state of practice in water-sensitive urban design, focusing on cold-climate solutions. The event will take place November 6 – 7 in Edmonton. It will include an EQuilibrium™ Communities panel at which developers of these sustainable neighbourhood projects will describe the water-sensitive design features their teams explored and built in their projects.
