Testing Different Approaches to Energy Reduction in Five 1 1/2 Storey Post-War Houses
The Now House® Project Inc. team, which first retrofit a 1.5 storey post-war house as part of the EQuilibrium™ Sustainable Housing Demonstration Initiative, is continuing its work by retrofitting additional houses. This research highlights the work done to evaluate five different retrofit strategies on houses of a similar type and vintage in Windsor, Ontario. The five houses were monitored for 12 months following their completion with post-retrofit electricity, gas and water savings reaching a high of 42 per cent, 60 per cent and 63 per cent respectively. The Now House® Windsor 5 project demonstrates the benefit of retrofitting older homes.

About Your House

Accessible Housing by Design — Living Spaces
This About Your House fact sheet provides an overview of planning and design guidelines to consider when creating, renovating or redecorating the living spaces in your home where people meet, sleep, relax, watch TV, read, play cards, listen to music, and so on. These guidelines reflect the principles of universal design, which result in homes that are safer and more accommodating to everyone who lives or visits there, regardless of age or physical ability.
